[ Terry has been feeling pretty listless all morning. The cat family has been following him all around, but keeping their distance. There's a reason why--maybe they sense it better than Terry himself. It's a blazing hot Saturday morning, and the heat has been making Terry a little bit cranky.
... Okay, a lot crankier than usual. He crushes a soda can that's on the ground with his foot and viciously throws it into the nearest trash can. After getting himself away from the trash can, he finds Mondo and walks over to greet him. Stay cool, Terry. Stay cool. Just greet him like you usually do. Stay calm--
No, Mondo immediately gets a punch to his gut without explanation and Terry, upon realization what he did, looks horrified like he just committed a grave sin. ]
[ Having negative thought loops isn't something that's unfamiliar to Mondo. He's had it for as long as he can remember, that he can't recall when was the last time he's free of it. Every single moments of happiness will immediately be followed by a strong feeling of dread, that he doesn't deserve it, that he'll lose everything, that it will backfire on him. Fluctuation of emotions is something he's learned to deal with, and it's never had exploded the way it did during what went down with Fujisaki.
So why in the hell, after so long, he's struck by this steaming fury, sorrow, fear ー all kinds of colors of emotions that turn black when mixed ー raring to go and make a riot? Stop it. Stop it. Stop it. He doesn't want to hurt anyone else. Fujisaki didn't deserve it. Aniki didn't deserve it. They both should've lived, and he was supposed to be the one taking their places. Lia has been avoiding him, and while it made him sad yesterday, it really is for the better ー he doesn't want to do something he'll regret anymore, while he still has his voice of reason.
He's barely grasping on it, it's threatening to slip out of the grip, and as it increases the faster Mondo goes, heading towards the forest without really looking at where he's going. He has to go, far far away from where everyone else is, before anything happens. His speed picks up, and while he's usually alert enough to dodge sudden attacks, he was too preoccupied to reactー ]
Hngk-!!
[ ーand down he falls to his knees. He trembles, but not in pain-- heck, he can barely feel the pain. He's trembling in sheer fury. It's as if out of all the emotions that are taking turns to dominate Mondo, fury wins out with the impact. He looks up, finding Terry standing there, like he's surprised at his own actions.
His body moves faster than his brain can. Before he knows it, he's pulling Terry by his collar, tight enough to choke him. His eyes are bloodshot, staring straight at Terry, so it's not as if he doesn't know who it is, but he grits his teeth and doesn't relent. ]
The fuck you tryinna do? Aah?!? You wanna die?
[ No, no, fuck, this ain't how it's supposed to be, let him go you fucking idiot!! The quiet scream of plead is drowned by the sound of his own palpitation, deafening, numbing. His breathing is ragged, like an agitated wild animal. ]
[ When usually high-strung, Terry's emotions are pretty much at 100% most of the time. However, he has been emotionally distressed before, with his emotions at high peak. This was around when Vassago had gone crazy in town--he can remember the total anguish. But the difference between being emotional then and being emotional now is that he feels that he has even less control of it now, and if his outbursts were 120% before, they sure feel like 200% now. His usual mouth filter (which does all it can, really. promise) is absolutely useless in his current state.
So that's why, in comparison to their first meeting where Terry seemed scared of getting punched in the face, he laughs, even while getting getting glared down with bloodshot eyes, having his airway being pressured, and fully knowing just who exactly is doing this to him--Terry hates it. He hates it so much. It feels like he's emulating his original. The feelings of disgust quickly creep into his heart and evolves into self-loathing, which had never happened before since he always managed to suppress it before it even got that far. ]
You wanna fucking go? Try me.
[ Terry immediately grabs onto Mondo's arm that's holding him by the collar and attempts to pull off something like this because my descriptions can only do so much and he immediately backs away a step or two if he lands it correctly to be freed from his clutches. ]
[ Despite the fury, Terry's reactions catches Mondo by surprise. The laughter, the way he speaks... it's almost like it was someone else that isn't Terry. That slight fluster was enough to get him easily thrown down like a fucking toy, because it's not just about how strong Terry's grip was, it's about the timing. The timing was perfect, and down Mondo goes.
Like a switch that has been flipped, the impact to the ground sets him on fire, and there's no more doubt in his movements when he gets up. It's almost like there's a burning blaze of blue oozing out of him as he steps towards Terry, like he's looking at an opponent, not a friend. ]
Rraaaaahhh!!!
[ He lifts up his fist and launches a punch with his right hand towards Terry's face. Whether that hits or not, he follows it up with a knee to the stomach less than a second after ー for the whole time, never once Mondo's eyes left Terry's. ]
[ Despite Terry's usual stance for violence, once he gets rolling in a fight, he feels his blood boil from excitement. It doesn't help that his emotions are heightened, so it feels like a strange sort of adrenaline high. He can usually stop himself, but no, not this time. Another thing that counts against Terry's self restraint is that he hasn't done this sort of thing in so long, having his Persona to most of the work for him. It feels nice to actually do some sort of fighting himself. His vision sharpens.
Despite looking a little lanky, he catches Mondo's fist quite well with his own hand, and shoves that to the side in an attempt to throw Mondo's balance off because with his knee rising, it would be usually difficult to balance on one foot. The knee to the stomach connects halfway, so his side is starting to hurt from the impact. He backs up some more quickly, since speed is more along the lines of his thing rather than strength, though he's pretty strong anyway even without his demigod enhancements... ]
Is that all you got?! I thought you'd be stronger than that! Those muscles aren't just for show, are they?!
[ Though he doesn't really give Mondo a chance to reply--Terry runs and slides past his side, the leaves on the ground making it easier to do so in the forest, and forces a roundhouse kick to the back while balancing on his hands on the ground. ]
[ He expected a much weaker response, but seeing how well Terry's fighting against him and pushing him back, the fire in him burns brighter, more intensely. He snorts, feeling the pounding of his heartbeat in his fingertips, in his ears and his every being, excitement driving up his brain. ]
You're gonna regret sayin' that!!
[ The kick hits but Mondo's muscles indeed aren't just for shows. He may have lost the balance earlier, but once he regains it, the impact does nothing to him, after all his pain threshold is pretty high and he's fought enough fights to be numb of minor injuries. He hasn't properly fought like this in the longest time, and as much as he wanted to swear off meaningless fights, it's exhilarating. Maybe he's made for this, after all. It's probably the way he's supposed to be, a delinquent who only knows how to crush stronger opponents to get to the top.
He makes use of the seemingly awkward position Terry is in to attempt to kick him down and step on him, subsequently body slamming him on the ground. He's gonna crush him! ]
[ Terry couldn't fully avoid that in time, so he's kicked down and stepped on. It's not really until the damage is received that Terry feels like his fighting instincts are coming down. Demigods were originally created for a purpose in combat, and Terry, despite living in peace for fifteen years and being a botched up clone, is not excluded from that purpose. Despite having mostly human-like physical capabilities, it won't deter him from fighting all out.
He feels the adrenaline kick soaring from within him and he kicks off from a nearby tree to avoid being body slammed on. That's one damage he would like to avoid. He only got out of the hospital a week ago, but luckily, the stitches around his former heart wound haven't undone themselves. He can keep going. He will always keep going. Terry flips over backwards to get in a standing position and attempts to dropkick Mondo while he's still down. ]
[ It's almost like he's lost his sanity. The drop kick hits on a perfect spot where it's supposed to hurt, but he's actually feeling really fuckin' great instead. This is it. This is what he's looking for. He wants more of it.
He attempts to grasp the leg that kicks him, trying to throw Terry off the balance by pulling it.
More.
If it's successful, he'll try to throw in another punch Terry's way.
[ Terry has never had to fight like this against a friend before, a human friend at that. Every time he had to fight like this, he had to do it with murderous intent, though he was never successful in actually killing anyone despite being pretty loose about his murder principles. Even though Mondo is his friend, he's keeping up well, and that only makes him strive to make this fight as exhilarating as he can. He's never needed it, but since the fight is going on, rolling and rolling downhill, he can't stop his desire to fight more himself. he wants to feel it with his bare hands--
Terry's leg is grabbed and he's pulled. He's being thrown to the side, but manages to block the incoming punch by catching his fist. That really stings the palm of his hand, but right now, he doesn't care. He can't care for pain right now. ]
If only you could throw punches like you can throw your words...
[ ever since terry told her that he got into a fight with mondo, rei has been preoccupied with the thought of finding mondo and making sure that he's okay. if terry got that badly hurt from a fight then she can only imagine what mo-chan's condition is like... so after spending the night to make sure that terry is okay, she takes off first thing in the morning to look for her other oniichan. ]
[ she begins at the warehouse that he once told her about. it's still early so perhaps he's sleeping in? she doesn't know if she can just walk in, though, so she just knocks on the door as hard as her little hands can. ]
[ If a good workout results in some muscle pains the next day, having your back bones broken from a fight is Hell. He can barely sleep, and moving after lying down feels like fingernails on the blackboard. Though he knows clearly that he has to rest as much as he can for at least a couple of days, he can't stay there forever without doing anything, much less now that he hears the gentle voice of the girl he's gotten to care for so much. ]
Rei... I'm here.
[ He bites back a groan that's threatening to leave him as he tries to get up on his feet, not wanting to worry her too much. When she enters, she can see that he has some bruises and cuts here and there, but nothing major is particularly noticeable. ]
[ she looks up at him when he opens the door, examining him. in one of her hands is a small plastic bag and the other hands nervously fidgets with the hem of her skirt. ]
Um... I heard about the fight from T-chan...
[ she doesn't know how else to put it but straight out like that. she walks in and looks around a bit at her surroundings, but she turns towards mondo, still trying to examine him and trying to see if he's hurt further than just the bruises and cuts. ]
[ He closes the door behind them, just in case. There isn't much in the warehouse, just a bunch of tools that have been tidied up to one side, a futon, and a cat bed with Lia, a tabby cat that's just laying on it lazily without even acknowledging Rei. ]
My bad, I've got nothin' here, but you can sit on the futon if you wanna.
[ ...So she's heard about it. Mondo awkwardly runs his hand on the back of his head, a little ashamed that he's making her worry. Rei has always been kind ー she's always trying to find ways to help him and the others with all she has, like the time with Terry. It's exactly why he doesn't really want to tell her the truth. ]
I'm good... Terry prolly had it worse than me. I... I'm fine.
[ Just as he says it, he can feel it again, the bubbling up emotions that he felt when he fought with Terry the day before.
Shit! Not now, not when Rei is here! He thought he was alright when he woke up, but in a split second, his thoughts and emotions are hitting the top of the bar. His hands tremble on his sides, and his back pain aches more than ever. He grits his teeth hard, shutting his eyes for a moment, before opening them again. ]
It was all my bad, I... I had lost myself and... I hurt him bad... I was a fuckin' asshole... I... Rei, it might've been better if you leave... I might hurt you the way I did him. I'm...
[ His voice trails off, his mind decides to play back the happening with Fujisaki, clearer, in the perspective of a third person. Wonderland was his curse and blessing ー he's gotten the closure he had never thought he would, but he had also learned things that he would've been happier not knowing, like moments before Fujisaki left the world in his blood-stained hands. Both remorse and fear attack him at once. What if he repeats the same mistake? He already did what he did to Terry, he could repeat it again. ]
[ mondo offers the futon to sit on, but she doesn't budge. instead, as mondo begins to shake and suddenly, something really aches in rei's chest. seeing him so upset, it saddens her. he doesn't deserve to be in such a state and she reaches out. she attempts to take one of his fists and bring it up to her, holding them with both of her small hands. they grip on tightly and although he has his eyes closed, she's looking straight up at him. ]
... it's okay, Mo-chan, I know you wouldn't do that if you could help it.
[ she's not scared when he tells her that he might hurt her. she doesn't think that it'll happen, but even if it does, she would forgive him. she understands everything completely. ]
You're a good person. You wouldn't do anything if you could help it. Something must have happened before you got into a fight with T-chan.
[ terry has told her that he has been experiencing these strange mood swings and she knows that he wouldn't lie to her. she has also seen strange behaviour overcoming her friends before. sometimes, shadows inflict strange aliments onto people and that can dramatically change how they are. although terry said that it wasn't a shadow that infected him, she still thinks that some external factor had to cause everything. after all, mo-chan is kind and sweet. she can't imagine him ever getting upset if it wasn't for a really good reason or because he was pushed by something. ]
It felt like if he lets his guard down even just for a split second, he'll lose control of himself and repeat the same mistake again. Fujisaki was a good person, but let's face it ー he wasn't someone Mondo treasured the way he does Rei. Mondo wouldn't have known what to do with himself if the same thing happens to Rei, and if he loses her.
He looks towards the door and is about to run out of there when Rei grips his hand. His eyes dilate as he fights the urge to pry her hands off. When his eyes meet hers, he can see it ー what he admires about Rei: her courage. Her strength. It would be really easy for someone like Mondo to hurt her, but she has her trust on him ー she doesn't budge, nor worry for her own safety.
And yet, here he is, knees buckling from fear, down to the ground. The entirety of his back screams at the sudden strain he puts on it, but he can barely feel it when the tormenting pain in his heart is threatening to choke him. Tears begin to form in his eyes, and he hates it. He doesn't want Rei to see him like this.
Fuck! Fuck this!! Goddammit!! His fist balls, knuckles scratching against the ground. He's on all fours, head dropping so she won't see his tears, but it's obvious what's dropping on the ground isn't sweat. The tears won't stop, and he grits his teeth so hard it's audible. ]
Rei...
[ It's probably so fucking selfish to wish for this but he doesn't want to lose anyone dear to him anymore. He'd rather get tortured to death than having to lose anyone again. He'll do anything, everything, even if it means to leave everything behind if he can keep them safe. ]
[ she doesn't expect him to fall to his hands and knees like that. her hands come off when he drops and she stands there frozen for a second, trying to process everything. she's never seen mo-chan in such a vulnerable state before. she doesn't understand what's going on, but she kneels down next to him. she's about to put out a hand to place on his back, unknowing that it's hurt, when he says something that confuses her. ]
A murderer?
[ mo-chan is... a murderer...? ]
What do you mean?
[ well, that can't be true. he's a big friendly giant. he's like shin-chan and kanji-kun. just like them, he can't hurt anyone... the audience laughs in shinjiro's direction. ]
[ Rei will probably be scared of him, or even leave him if he says it. But she needs to know. She has to know, how dangerous he can be, how easily it is for him to lose control and hurt her. His entire body shakes, together with his voice. ]
I... I killed my classmate.
[ His fists ball on the ground. ]
...I was... I was jealous of the strength Fujisaki showed-- and I...
[ He can't-- his voice trails off as he groans, tears pooling under him. ]
[ Terry had managed to come back in time for the festival, which... is strange, because he didn't plan on coming back so early at all. He thought he would have been gone for quite some time, but here he is, sitting on one of the benches in the streets. The stars are so nice out, and he can see the near full moon as well. It reminds him of the time when he had the sleepover with Mondo, playing at the river, and all that. He quietly breathes out, wondering what he's doing now. He still has bandages wrapped around his head and neck, but they appear to be fresh--Terry knows how to do that on his own by now, given how accident prone he tends to be. The bandages around his head are mostly covered with a navy blue cap on his head. The hat helped a little with the sun, but not all that much. Besides, the sun is down right now, so he might as well put it away, but he doesn't do that.
He hasn't had a proper chance to rest and wonders if he'll just fall asleep here. He looks over to the side and... huh. That kinda looks like Mondo. You can't really easily mimic his build, but Terry figures that he's just seeing things from how tired he is, so he closes his eyes, but then Ami, the mother cat, hops onto Terry's face.
[ He's been searching. Walking, walking, walking. Even if he was supposed to rest his back, he couldn't help but look for Terry because as awkward as it was after what went down, he wanted to be sure Terry didn't hurt himself again. But the person in question was nowhere to be seen, no matter how hard Mondo looked and asked around. The number of people in town depleted quick and is still depleting, it just makes him increasingly anxious, even without his fluctuating uncontrollable emotions.
He's lost Oyakata and Kana-san. What if Terry disappears too? If he loses Terry too... what's he gonna do? What if it was all his fault? What if, because of that fight, he might've triggered something he shouldn't have? These questions continue going round and round in his mind, keeping his up all night and day. Regrets, and more regrets begin piling up the longer he doesn't see Terry. He can't even enjoy the festival - not when it's celebrating the dead, and he's... supposed to be dead, it's stupid. Even without all that, he won't be able to rest easy as long as he doesn't know if Terry's returned home safe, or injured badly somewhere.
It made him almost sure that Terry's returned home when he spotted Terry's five kitties lingering around the hospital, and none of the staff heard anything about Terry. But he's very much the 'believing what you're seeing' kind, and his stubbornness keeps him going, so the town will witness this big burly man walking around with 11 cats surrounding him.
After nearly 4 days without a result, Mondo was ready to give up for the night and return to the warehouse, when he spotted a silhouette that is so familiar he can't be getting it wrong. Even more so when Ami dashed ahead, looking like she noticed who it was. Mondo's thought a lot of things, what he'd do if he sees Terry. In his perfect plan, he'd sock Terry in the face and yell at him, no matter what time in the day it is, and sock him some more times.
But when it comes to it, the strength in his whole body feels like it leaves him, and he nearly goes slump, if not for his hands reflexively grabbed on the top of the bench's backrest, hovering over Terry. With the way Mondo's looking down, it's fairly easy for Terry to probably look at the way he's gritting his teeth. Tears seem to be threatening to fall, but he stubbornly keeps them in check, his body shaking. ]
You fucker... You fuckin' idiot.
[ He's exhausted, and his position makes his back burn in pain, but he doesn't care about that right now. Terry's here. He's alive. ]
[ Ah. So it wasn't a trick of the eyes after all. Terry opens his eyes, looking at Mondo after getting Ami off his face and onto his lap. His head is still tilted up at Mondo and he reaches out a hand to touch his cheek. It's dark, but it isn't dark enough to hide Mondo's face completely. There are street lights in town, after all. He smiles a little as he taps Mondo's cheek lightly first, but slides his thumb gently across it. ]
Hey, Mondo. Long time no see.
[ He lowers his hand back onto his lap. The kittens have gathered round now and Ami goes to tend to her babies while the humans do their thing. ]
[ Under a different circumstances, Mondo will probably be a lot more bashful about this gesture Terry is doing, but right now, he doesn't have the leeway to even feel that way. Without realising, he's leaning to the touch, as if savouring the sensation that Terry is here, and he's alive.
The bench's crowded with multiplied cat family, but they still leave some space for Mondo to sit. There you go, hooman. He would resist sitting, but his back is killing him ー he's been walking around all day, so he complies. Slowly and carefully, he places his bum on the seat, trying to kill the tiniest hint of groan that tries to escape from his throat. He can't help his eyes narrowing, though, so he just looks away from Terry when that happens.
His eyebrows are scrunched up when he looks at Terry again. He almost bangs the bench, but with all the kittens on the bench, he can't do that - he'll scare them and that's not something he wants to do right now. ]
Don't 'long time no see' me, you asshole. Where the fuck you've been?
[ His voice is quiet, but there's anger, frustration, relief, warmth - a mess of emotion in it. He doesn't want to fight Terry, but he's still really goddamn annoyed, so his hand grasps the fabric on the shoulder of Terry's shirt, but that's all he does. ]
[ Terry has been eyeing Mondo all this time, watching his face make various expressions and, well, he supposes that the back damage wouldn't have healed all the way already. It would have normally rendered someone forever paralyzed due to the excessive damage to the spine. He feels... pretty guilty about it. ]
Sorry, I was... looking for someone.
[ By the looks on his face, it's obvious that he didn't find whoever he was looking for. ]
[ Mondo's thickness finally comes to use, and the fact that Terry holds back quite a bit helps a lot. It still hurts like a motherfucker but he's managing with his willpower. Now that Terry's back, though, maybe he can take it easy a little. As long as he doesn't go disappearing again (ha ha jokes on him). ]
'Someone'... huh. 's that someone ya can't tell me?
[ His grip loosens when Terry said that he needed to cool his head, but a exasperated sigh leaves him heavily. ]
Can't you just say somethin' before ya leave? Even if not to me.
[ Terry quietly sighs and looks at Mondo in the eyes now. ]
I'm sorry. [ Again. ] I should have said something... you were right. I wasn't thinking clearly back then. But I can think a little clearer now. I didn't want to worry anyone with the news though... so that's why I didn't say anything.
[ He breathes in. It doesnt hurt when he does it anymore. ]
He's surprised to find himself feeling rather upset that Terry's not comfortable enough to share to him who it was he was looking for, but at the same time he's also upset that he's feeling upset. It's Terry's problem and he shouldn't butt in, and yet he can't help being concerned because the guy's made up of nothing but reckless energy. ]
Both of us were probably just too pent up, and we let our emotions get the better of us. I'm sorry, too.
[ Despite his words, he's actually so goddamn scared that he can lose control of himself like that. It's similar to what happened with Fujisaki, only he can remember everything clearly, even now. Things he uttered, things he did to Terry. He hovers his hand over the wound that he inflicted on Terry, not quite touching, but it's there. ]

08/11 - early morning
[ she begins at the warehouse that he once told her about. it's still early so perhaps he's sleeping in? she doesn't know if she can just walk in, though, so she just knocks on the door as hard as her little hands can. ]
Mo-chan...? Are you in there...?
no subject
Rei... I'm here.
[ He bites back a groan that's threatening to leave him as he tries to get up on his feet, not wanting to worry her too much. When she enters, she can see that he has some bruises and cuts here and there, but nothing major is particularly noticeable. ]
Hey, what's up?
no subject
Um... I heard about the fight from T-chan...
[ she doesn't know how else to put it but straight out like that. she walks in and looks around a bit at her surroundings, but she turns towards mondo, still trying to examine him and trying to see if he's hurt further than just the bruises and cuts. ]
I wanted to see if I could heal you, if you hurt.
no subject

... it's okay, Mo-chan, I know you wouldn't do that if you could help it.
Don't worry. I'll be here with you.
[ she'll stay until he feels better. ]
no subject
He's afraid. He's so fucking afraid.
Don't get close to me. I'm a murderer.
no subject
A murderer?
[ mo-chan is... a murderer...? ]
What do you mean?
[ well, that can't be true. he's a big friendly giant. he's like shin-chan and kanji-kun. just like them, he can't hurt anyone... the audience laughs in shinjiro's direction. ]
no subject
I... I killed my classmate.
[ His fists ball on the ground. ]
...I was... I was jealous of the strength Fujisaki showed-- and I...
[ He can't-- his voice trails off as he groans, tears pooling under him. ]

aug 14, action, late evening
He hasn't had a proper chance to rest and wonders if he'll just fall asleep here. He looks over to the side and... huh. That kinda looks like Mondo. You can't really easily mimic his build, but Terry figures that he's just seeing things from how tired he is, so he closes his eyes, but then Ami, the mother cat, hops onto Terry's face.

He's alive. ]
no subject
Hey, Mondo. Long time no see.
[ He lowers his hand back onto his lap. The kittens have gathered round now and Ami goes to tend to her babies while the humans do their thing. ]
Sit next to me?
no subject
no subject
Sorry, I was... looking for someone.
[ By the looks on his face, it's obvious that he didn't find whoever he was looking for. ]
And I needed to cool my head.
no subject
'Someone'... huh. 's that someone ya can't tell me?
[ His grip loosens when Terry said that he needed to cool his head, but a exasperated sigh leaves him heavily. ]
Can't you just say somethin' before ya leave? Even if not to me.
no subject
I'm sorry. [ Again. ] I should have said something... you were right. I wasn't thinking clearly back then. But I can think a little clearer now. I didn't want to worry anyone with the news though... so that's why I didn't say anything.
[ He breathes in. It doesnt hurt when he does it anymore. ]
I'm sorry for what I did... that morning.
no subject
[ It's not apology that Mondo wants to hear.
Still hurt?
